Preparing for the future

I remember fondly the times I spent on the back porch of the Chapter House. During parties, brotherhood events, or just relaxing with my brothers, I found myself constantly amazed that my fraternity chapter had the good fortune to be located with spectacular views of the Central Canal and the White River. I was also fortunate to be in the chapter at a time when the facility was freshly renovated upon our return to campus in 2002, and the subsequent building of the addition in 2006 that added several private rooms for members. It was arguably the nicest fraternity house on campus.

As President of the House Corporation, I've become much more familiar with the bones of the facility. It's been more than 20 years since the house was gutted and refurbished. We've reached a point where we need to do more substantial renovations to keep our Chapter House competitive with the new dorms on campus. We have a plan.

Led by House Corporation member and chapter alumnus Connor Ganly, we have embarked on a capital campaign to raise money to renovate the public areas of the chapter house. The plans include making the facility ADA compliant, bringing the kitchen and dining room onto the main floor (separating the dance floor from where the men eat), and updating vital infrastructure elements including HVAC and plumbing. We won't be able to do this without help from our alumni. Please be on the lookout for opportunities to donate to the campaign. Especially if you benefitted from the renovations and additions funded by past alumni, I hope you will consider adding to the legacy our chapter house brings to Butler University.
